Where is Slovakia?

Slovakia is situated in the heart of Europe, bordered by the Czech Republic and Poland to the north, Ukraine to the East, Hungary to the South, and Austria to the West.

The country has a population of approximately 5 million people with approximately 10% of these living in the capital city of Bratislava, which is located in the East of Slovakia, about 40 minutes drive from the Austrian city of Vienna. The main city to the East is Kosice, and in between the two are spectacular mountains.

What's it like?

Slovakia is a diverse country. The capital city of Bratislava offers a cosmopolitan atmosphere, with chic bars, great shopping malls, and wonderful restaurants. Progress out of the city and you'll find beautiful spa towns, such as Piestany, famed for its thermal waters.

Move to the North of the country and you will find beautiful scenery. The Tatra Mountains and the areas around Cadca and Zilina offer spectacular views, aqua parks and outdoor activities in the summer, and superb skiing in the winter.

Is it safe to invest there?

Companies such as Kia, Peugeot, Volkswagen and Hewlett Packard certainly think so! Slovakia has attracted significant investment from these and other companies and this has resulted in the country becoming one of the fastest growing economies in Europe. Slovakia is a member of the European Union and is planning to join the Euro currency in 2008.

For those buying properties, there is a clear legal procedure and land registry is a clear process. There is no need to form a company to buy property.
